I have started preliminary work on the ancillary tasks, alongside my main production. Today I practised with a group on planning and production of a short radio advert for my newspaper, which we gave the title The Pool.
From work in other media institutions (radio) outside of lessons I am already familiar with Adobe Audition/Cool Edit Pro. However the ancillary task allowed me to develop my skills further, and gain experience working in a sound recording studio.
We firstly scripted our advert, drafted to last about 30 seconds, deciding to use scouse voices as these are relative to the local newspaper genre. We used both male and female voices to appeal to both genders of audience.
I acted as the the operator of the mixing desk in the studio, except when my vocals were being recorded. I had to test and set levels of each vocalist, before setting the desk to record and playback.
After recording the vocals I hard-limited and normalised them to get a clear sound; before we decided on both delay effects and the bed music for the advert. This was chosen as a track of dance music to relate to the fast-paced youth of the target audience. It can be heard here from 00:59 onwards.
With having the experience in Adobe Audition I took the task of mixing down the elements to create the finished advert.
