I have emailed the Liverpool edition of the Metro enquiring about their target audience and how they decide on their cover stories based on this, to give me an idea of what I should be aiming for considering the Metro would be a major rival for my newspaper. Below is the email:
I am currently studying newspapers and the UK newspaper market as part of an A2 Media course in Roby Sixth Form College, Liverpool. For this I have been given the task of researching and producing a local newspaper.
I have chosen the Metro as an example to research. I would like to ask what the specific target audience of the Metro (Liverpool Edition is), and how the genre of front-page stories is chosen to adapt to this?
It would be a great help to be supplied with this information.
Thanks,
Matt Marshall
As my target audience will be young people in Knowsley, I have identified the revolutionary scheme of new schooling in Knowsley as a potential story lead. Therefore I have emailed Damian Allen, the Director of Education for Knowsley Council, to enquire about possible help with a story about this. Below is the email:
Damian,
I am currently studying A2 Media at Roby Sixth Form, and have been given the task of producing a local newspaper, which will be aimed at young people in the Knowsley and Liverpool areas.
I have decided to include a story about the Future Schooling in Knowsley scheme, in particular about Huyton Arts and Sports Centre for Learning. In this article I aim to discuss the differences between Knowsley Hey as an ex student, and the new Centre for Learning - how it will improve education and have a positive impact for all in Knowsley as a base for community education.
I would like to ask if you could provide me with a quote for an article, of how you feel the new Centre will improve the quality of education over the old Knowsley Hey and Bowring, and the advantages it poses to the young people of Knowsley.
If you would like to discuss this more I would be happy to talk to you in more detail,
Thanks for your time,
Matthew Marshall
I hope to recieve a reply to these emails shortly.
