My schedule can be seen below. In it I have named the stage of production and gave myself brief aim of what I should do at this stage. I will try and stick as closely as possible to this schedule throughout the production of my coursework.
SCHEDULE:
a) Market Research
Analysis and semiotic analysis of existing local newspapers to identify conventions which I may wish to challenge or develop. Contact the newspapers if necessary to discuss the local newspaper market and what features make an effective local newspaper.
Then...
b) Primary Research
Create a questionnare to distribute, which will identify trends in local newspaper readership as well as concentrate on what different audience prefer in a local newspaper. Collate results in graphs to allow me to visually identify trends and therefore consider these when drafting and completing final design.
Then...
c) Planning
Create basic drafts of layout and consider the most effective parts of each to incorporate into more detailed drafts of both the front page and first page. Present the drafts to the audience for primary research in the form of another questionnaire or possibly a focus group; use the feedback from this to start the construction of the final product.
Then...
d) Construction
Use the feedback from the audience regarding the drafts to begin to construct the final product. Firstly decide on effective software such as Publisher/Photoshop to use, before beginning. Constant peer/tutor feedback to make sure my construction is developing and challenging convention effectively and is identifiable as a local newspaper for a younger audience. Organise opportunity to take photographs for the newspaper with people/organisations that feature in the newspaper; then once taken edit these pictures for use in the newspaper. Research font and colour as these are key to creating a 'youthful' brand image.
Then...
e) Audience Feedback
Distribute a questionnare to or hold a focus group with the same group of people used for primary research throughout the production of my coursework to identify whether my final product is fully effective; and areas in which I could have improved for incorporation into my evaluation.
Then...
f) Ancillary Tasks
Brief research into the conventions of radio adverts and posters. Develop these conventions, but use them with 'youthful' elements identified during my newspaper research. Construct the ancillary tasks using relative software, making sure they are semioitically identifiable as relating to my newspaper - an effective brand image.
Then...
g) Evaluation
Create in interactive presentation to evaluate my coursework, incorporating my final audience feedback to show me which areas I was most effective in and which I could most improve in.
